Small Log cabin/shed in garden for teenagers- recommendations please?

Hi,
We have a small house (live In Hertfordshire), with an open plan ground floor and we would like to have a small log cab, shed in our garden for my daughters to chill out in the evenings with their friends. It only needs to be big enough to have a small conservatory type suite of furniture in it. I would also prefer it to be installed by a company as well. Has anyone any recent good recommendations? Price up to about £2k.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi, I'm surprised no-body has replied to your message so far.

    We too are looking at buying a summerhouse/log cabin. The one that suits our needs is the Finnforest Peili as it has a storage room attached - we will have to remove the shed we have at the moment although it will probably collapse as we try.

    There is a guy on here who has posted photos of his summerhouse - Finnforest Riekko, which is the mirror immage of the Peili. Just type 'Finnforest' in the forum search.

    I was talking to Trevor from Cabinville.co.uk yesterday about prices for the complete job (cabin & concrete base & installation).

    Cabin = £1952
    Installation = £600
    Concrete base = £45 per sq metre (the summerhouse is just over 12 sq m)

    Delivery is about 3 weeks after placing order (at the moment).

    Trevor was very polite and very knowledgeable about planning permission / building regulations (yes, you may need them - you must check). I would rather have the company that supplies them send a guy who has fitted loads, than use a builder/joiner/handyman who has probably never erected one before.

    There are other companies that supply/fit them or you may have someone in the family that is more than capeable of building it although I have read that this particular model (and possibly all Finnforest cabins) need the base 'logs' cutting/mitreing. On many of the cabin websites they have a link to the Finnforest installation guides or they are available on Finnforest's own website.

    Good luck with it!

    Yes I'd definitely check about the planning permission - in my days as an enforcement officer I visited many people who had erected summerhouses/log cabins without realising they needed planning permission! Usually, they had been poorly advised by the builder/supplier. Whilst they don't all need it, it depends on how large it is, where it is sited in relation to your house and nearby roads, and where you are located - are you in an AONB or conservation area?

    We put up a log cabin recently. You must compare wood thickness to get a decent like-for-like cost comparison. Finn were too thin for us. We went with Tri-ang (the toy company). They have an Ebay shop. Ours is 4m x 3m, 34mm logs, double glazed with shingle roof. Total cost about £1500 inc base. We erected it ourselves and it was very simple, took about a day including roof.

    It has been wired up to mains electric and is now a 'pad' for my son who has his games table and music in there.

    Only planning issues in our area, were that it had to be less than 30m area and 5m or more from the house but 1m from a boundary.

    Try these people
    A & J Sectional Buildings, Northants. 01933 680086 I'm sure they have a website too.

    We had a summerhouse from them 3 years ago (approx £1,050 delivered, erected, the lot.) Its shaped to fit a corner of the garden so you lose no space and it was the best we looked at at the time. Some are VERY flimsy and poorly finished.

    They were at my house at 8 am and the 2 guys had it all done in about 1.5 hours. It came in sections and was also treated, glazed etc. We did the base ourselves but they also do that or you can get someone local if you prefer.

    www.homebase.co.uk have some on their website & in their gardening brochure.

    The prices might give an idea on how much you MIGHT pay - then see if there are some independents that can undercut them!!
