Peculiar situation!!!!!!!

Hi, hopefully someone can help me here..

I arrived here from Australia in 2006 and before I left home, I listed my best mates address, for all communication etc. Also when I arrived, as they were the only person I knew, I used her address to apply for a national insurance number. Now I was only using this as a postal address, as I had no fixed abode at the time, nor a job as I was travelling England, hoping to pick up work here and there. Now as it happens I have been in employment since march 2007 and I have had my own permanent address since November last year and before that I boarded with a large family who did not claim anything. Now because I have forgotten to update my details, my friend has just endured an interview under caution, she is a single mum on benefits. Now through no fault of her own she is under investigation. I have stayed there a few times, but no longer than a night at a time on any given week at the most or after a late night at the local, as it was mainly only when I popped back from my travels. But anyway she gave them my details etc. Can I contact them off my own back to right the situation. They were more or less insinuating I was living there, but she said they had not one bit of evidence. They said they, will let her know... What do you think ???:confused: I might add, another lady in the street is a disgruntled benefit cheat, who was found out, who despises my mate.. It sounds like an unwarrented pay back to me..... But silly person has not given any solid evidence!!... But end of the day, it is my friend suffering in all this..........

I don't think you have any other choice. The only person who can clear your friend is you. I think you must do what is right by her. If you have not been living there, you can prove that. It certainly sounds like sour grapes from someone. Good luck.

  • the dwp have to investigate all allegations of fraud, and rightly so,however if she has told them what you have told us then she should have nothing to worry about,if she has details of who is investigating her and who interviewed her then YES it wouldnt do any harm at all to write explaining things, give as much detail of when and where you were actually living and explain why you OCCASSIONALLY spent the odd night at her home.
