Should I 'can' my home phone ?

Hi

I'm going through a cost reduction to try and control my outgoings and one of the items that I pay for (but barely use) is my home phone.

Basically, both my wife and I have work mobile phones and also personal mobile phones (which we'll be reviewing shortly as the contracts are coming to an end) which do have included minutes on them as well as texts.

The home phone deal I've got at the moment is through Virgin and includes 20MB broadband (I work from home and use this constantly), TV (which I've never used but took on this deal last year as it appeared to bizarrely reduce my costs - we've got Sky and I'll be looking to reduce the costs there) and telephone.

I currently pay £37.00 for my broadband and £4.00 for my phone (which includes free weekend calls I think). My understanding is that I need a landline for Sky but my phone calls per month are only around £5.00 (if that).

I don't particularly want to move from cable to ADSL for my broadband so I guess my options are limited....

Sorry for waffling on a bit but would appreciate some comments and guidance.

Thanks

Thanks for the link - obviously worth ringing Virgin and seeing what they have to offer........

I guess the other question is should I just cancel my landline altogether (any advantage in doing that ?) and just try and a get a better broadband deal ?

Some of Virgin's retention offers are better if you have the phone. For example I should be paying £37.99 plus £11 for the phone making £48.99. At the moment I get the whole lot for £26.50. Although I have been told that I could get half price broadband for £18.50 if I don't have the phone.

You will need a landline for Sky for at least the first 12 months - always if you go for multiroom.

You're getting the 20MB service and the phone for £26.50 ?

Is that just a six or 12 month deal?

Virgin being Virgin keep changing the goalposts as to how long. First they say for ever, then they say 6 months.

Who knows at times? I've to phone back in July though.
