Im considering buying an ipod - possibly the new nano one.

Any help appreciated.

apparently not (lots of talk on various forums about this) the ipod doesn't have the necessary decoders so if it plays at all it will play it as a normal mp3 file (so at the lower bitrate and thus defeating the point entirely) - why not use .aac if you want to save space in relation to filesize?"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. As far as I know mp3 pro is only a streaming encoder and mp3 files are still playable on ipods etc...

basically it's another form of encoding that allows for equivalent (or better depending on your pov) sound quality from lower bit rates. so mp3 at 128kBps = mp3pro at 64kBps this also has the advantage of reducing the filesize considerably (about half they reckon) but it does require the proper software in order to play it back properly.
ipods do indeed still play mp3's happily"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0 -
In answer to the original question, no I don't think they do. I did try playing around with it when I had a 3rd Gen iPod, but it didn't work.
With regards to quality, it is supposed to be as good as mp3, but on a decent (or even average) hifi you'll notice the difference quite easily."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I currently use Music match jukebox for all the music on my pc, I have tried the carious allowed formats and have found MP3 pro to be the best for music, when looking for a high compression ratio. However I have been using it for putting music on to my 256mb mp3 player.
I may well have to rip the 3500 songs again, using a higher compression ratio in either mp3 or AAC ?
What do you suggest ?, is AAC any better than mp3 at keeping the quality of the rip ?If at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.0
