hi
i am planning a city break to pisa, italy for my wifes 30th birthday in october
i have managed to find a cheap flight with ryanair which leaves sun 19th and comes back wed 22nd, £73.90 for both of us, but i worried about the wording on their website, it say pisa (florence) PSA,
after looking on google maps florence is a long way from pisa and i dont wnat o get stuck 70-80 miles away when we arrive
i would be grateful if somebody could confirm where the airport is the ryannair fly to, doing my research it looks like its an airport called Galileo Galilei, but im not sure
we have also found a nice b+b just 5 minutes from the centre called Claudio Ferri, which is quite reasonable on price
i would also welcome advice on how much things cost in pisa, a meal, transport, drinks, entrances to tourist attractions
many thanks
baron

According to THIS website, Pisa Airport is 1 mile north of the city of Pisa. I think its more of a case of Ryanair trying to convince you that this would be a good airport to fly to if visiting Florence. This space has been intentionally left blank0

PSA is the code of the airport Ryanair fly to, and it is indeed Pisa Airport which is the airport for Pisa and is very close, as Glenn said. (there is a map on the Ryanair site if you want to look).
Agree with Glenn, Ryanair are suggesting its a good airport for Florence (80km away, although where Ryanair learnt Geography thats on the doorstep!)0 -
Ryanair fly to Pisa PSA airport. You can get a train from the airport direct to Florence http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/ferrovie/util/inglese.jsp has the train times.
IMHO Pisa has the tower and nothing else, but you can drive to Viareggio or Lucca or get the train to Florence.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
PSA is the closest airport to Florence, and many carriers make you aware of that fact so that you know that it is the one to use if you want to visit Florence.
OP, be aware that after less than a day in Pisa you will have seen everything. Florence (and Siena) have so much more to offer.0 -
My unofficial ryanair destination guide to Pisa has all the info you need regarding Pisa airport, transfers to Pisa, Florence + Tuscany, the weather , hotels etc etc0

If you think 80km to Florence is bad you should try Frankfurt Hahn or Oslo Torp - both are well over 100kms away from the destination!0

Train fares in Italy are very reasonable and the service much better (not that it's difficult to beat the UK!) Air conditioned, double-height trains etc. I think it's a couple of hours, no more.
Florence DOES have its own airport but only Meridiana fly there direct from the UK.0 -
im pretty sure its around the £10 mark return , it takes 1 hr to get there.
Pisa airport is around 6-10 euros to any hotels in Pisa by taxi
If your looking for a good hotel i'd recommend the santa croce0 -

If you look on www.trenitalia.com (click on the top right hand corner for the English version) you will see all the trains which leave Pisa for Florence. I have just had a quick look and there is one which leaves at 9.01 and the next one is 9.29. Some trains take 1hr 22 and some take 1hr 04m, all depends which one you get. The ticket will be very reasonable, I just can't remember how much we paid to get from Livorno to Florence and Livorno is just slightly further away. Euro12 is ringing a bell, (2007) but of course it could have gone up by now. What I really wanted to impress upon you is, once you have got the train ticket, make sure you validate (date stamp) it in one of the yellow boxes which are situated in and around the platforms. If the inspector calls and the ticket is not validated you will be fined on the spot. Believe me, he takes no excuses i.e. language, forgot, didn't know it had to be done!!!! By the way, Florence is a lovely city, a day is really not long enough. When you walk out of the railway station, bear left, for the shops, Dummo, Pontevecchio Bridge etc., Good tourist information office just across the road from the railway station. Hope this helps.
