Connecting washer into garage - advice appreciated

Hi all
We are having a new kitchen and we decided to move the washer into the garage to make a bit of a utility. We designed and bought the kitchen minus a new washer and then moved the washer into the garage. the plumber has told us that it will be a difficult job because the garage floor is lower than the kitchen floor and the water obviously needs to flow downwards to drain. #I suggested sitting the washer on top of the dryer - but the plumber is cautious about this cos the washer will move during the cycle. A suggestion has been made to elevate the washer and build a lip around it to prevent it moving . ~Can anyone else think of a better solution - this is all new to me so please bear with me! Does all the pipe work stay outside or is there some pipe work that can go inside?

No, it ain't obvious that the water must flow downwards towards a drain, the WM has a pump, which might be able to pump up a certain distance. You need to check the WM manual, or with the manufacturer.
What is the difference in floor levels between the Kitchen and Util? and how high above floor level is the waste pipe you propose to break into? After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union

The garage floor is approx 6 inch lower than the kitchen floor!
The waste pipe - do you mean where it comes out of the wall onto the outside, if so its about 2 inches above the kitchen floor level. :rolleyes:0 -
The pump in the WM is designed only to pump the wat5er out of the machine into the outlet pipes. Gravity then does the rest. The pump will not pump against gravity. You could always build a raised platform 8" or so high to stand the WM machine on.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Overall, then the pipe into which you want to pump is [8in] 200mm above the floor on which the WM stands? Top of google turned up this: http://www.diynot.com/pages/pl/pl016.php, which says that the standpipe, as it calls it should be at a height between 60cm and 100cm. So bring your pipe into the Utility, and put a standpipe on it of 40cm to 80cm. If your plumber does not understand this, get another plumber. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union

shouldn't be a problem. Washing machines still come with the adaptor to hook the waste straight into a sink, so should pump the water up to the height of the machine.0

we have just done the same thing....pipes were extended from originals in kitchen through garage wall clipped along the garage ceiling and then bought down to where washing machine is placed. the waste pipe goes out through shed wall to drain.spanky xx

I can't see why the difference in height would be a problem - so long as the waste pipe is inclined so the water runs out of the house into a drain.
In my house there is a vertical pipe behind the washing machine which reaches half way up the washing machine - there is a trap on the bottom attached to an inclined pipe which runs the water into a drain outside. The tube from the machine is pushed into the top of the vertical pipe. The washing machine pumps the waste water through the tube and into the vertical waste pipe.0 -
Thanks to all who got back to me on this - i mentioned the comments and the plumber managed to fit it into the garage without elevating the machine - looks like this is because of the wm's own ability to pump anyway - so thanks again for all the advice:T :T0
