My husband and I bought our current house 2 years ago, when we purchased the house the mortgage, contents and mortgage protection cover was all arranged through our mortgage adviser who came recommended from the estate agents we were purchasing the house through.
The mortgage adviser came to our house to arrange at all and we went through the usual salary details, pre exisiting medical conditions and then the mortgage cover. At the time she advised that only husband would be covered for unemployment as he works in IT and it may be more difficult for him to find employment than me (i work in admin).
Two years down the line and husband has been made redundant, i called Zurich to find out how we go about claiming and they advise me that my husband is not covered for redundancy!? So what am i paying my 48 pound p/m month for? And is there anything we can do, we were under the impression we'd be covered for this especially after the adviser telling us that only hubby would be covered due to the nature of his work?
Bit of a nightmare really, as hubby is still out of work and the bills are due at the end of the month.

Life assurance? Critical illness? PHI?So what am i paying my 48 pound p/m month for?
What did Zurich say you were covered for?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. We're apparently covered for Sickness, accident and death but not redundancy but that's not what the advisor sold us.0

Sounds like you had a PHI policy and life assurance. PHI is better than a mortgage payment protection (MPPI) but does not have unemployment cover. So, usually when doing a PHI you would arrange a standalone unemployment policy if you want unemployment cover (or not if you dont want it - self employed for example) or you do an MPPI and an PHI policy but put a 12 month deferment on the PHI policy to continue after the MPPI runs out.
You need to go back to the adviser and check your paperwork to see why unemployment cover wasnt set up.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
