Now we are in the down turn and I, like you lot dont want our houses to looses too much value and I guess that neither do the house builders
Sorry I would like all homes to continue their price falls down 50%. Just so people can afford them.
As for Persimmon homes, surely they will fall faster with their card board interior walls. Any builder who substitutes a bit of plaster board for a brick wall is pulling a fast one.
Build homes properly and they won't drop in value as much as these tacky newbuild rabbit hutches.

There is a strong rumor going round that one of the big builder is in trouble....most of them are canceling new build phases and it looks bleak out there for them..check out share prices its frightening..
With today's climate I'm not surprised.
It's looking even bleaker for the smaller firms( Plummers, electricians plasterers etc.)
I know lots of firms, who work purely for these larger builders, have gone bust within the last 6 months.
I'm just glad we have a really strong private customer base"Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

It's frightening how quickly these new builds are thrown up."Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

The new builds are put up so quickly due to the pressure of the builders. They have a certain amount of numbers they have to meet every year. Usually we are given a certain amount of numbers to get by a certain date and then half way through they add another portion so that they can get extra numbers. This is related to bonuses for the staff at the top of the tree in these companies. We have worked for a few large housebuilders for the last 10 years. They have seen their profits increased substantially every year and have always been tight on our prices. We are pricing for a job at the moment and hope that we get it however we have been told to drop our prices to get the job. Great isn't it! We cannot complain however we have had a good run over the last 10 years and need to do whatever it takes to get the work over the next few years.0

What you're saying rings so true....there's so much pressure on all the trades working on these new builds, we did a fair amount with our old company."Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

OP seems to have gone quiet0

New builds always seem so small to me especially in my area
. But the new builds look nicer than the old houses..
Catch 22... buy a nice looking house but its small.. or buy a bigger house that looks drab and grey.
FYI i live in plymouth.0 -

I can see why people buy the smaller house on new estates due to the incentives and not wanting the maintenance costs etc, but what I always find amazing is that people like to buy new 4+ bedroomed houses on estates that don't come with any land at all and all bedroom windows look into the next door ones. If I had the money I'd definately go for an older property to get the privacy....0 -
why oh why do people want to live in these new build rabbit hutches.my friend bought one and when i went round i could not believe it. it was a 3bed but the rooms were like matchboxes and so narrow....plasterboard boxes thats what they are...bricks and morter are for housebuildingIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
After reading all these stories about the big bad house builders, let me try to let you know my experiances.
I'm 36 years of age and am living in my third Persimmon home. Why, did the other two fall down?
Yes there have been one or two issues, but surely a house builder building 17000 houses a year with a multinational workforce can make a mistake, however these problems have been sorted!!Probably not if you live on a Flood plain
People seem to expect a house to "roll off" a production line and have the same standards as a car.......... Hello... You lot have seen what the british weather can do. Let's get it right, are you telling us your House roof leaks, but your cars dosen't?You have tried to get a plumber to call,to do a good job and charge you a reasonable price?...Yes Tried to get your own piece of land to build your dream house on for a fair price... well lets be fair house builders like Persimmon need to deal with this every day!!! No !!!!!! Sherlock
Oh and the profits, I've looked at this, Persimmon made 585 Million in 2007, thats a lot, in fact its a 21.8% margin.Mmmm someting tell me they're droping rapidly  Well done, its nice to see a british company do well It would be interesting to see the quality of a newbuild if a German Company was doing it and I bet all of you out there who work in the support industries all enjoy the spin offs!!! New beds, new furniture,New carpets, the list goes on and on.
Now we are in the down turn and I, like you lot dont want our houses to looses too much value I think it might looses a lot more than you hope and I guess that neither do the house builders
Great first post from Persimmon - welcome to MSE!0
