In the past month I have made a point of recording every single expense, no matter how trivial, and every single use I make of things, and I can safely say when looking back that at least one quarter of all those entries were totally unnecessary.

And that bearing in mind that I do not have a car, as it is pointless here in the middle of London, and all my transport is paid by the companies I work for.

Many of the things we have come to regard as essential are not. They may be useful and convenient, but very few things are truly necessary. I appreciate that none of us wants to go back to living the way our the cavemen ancestors lived, lol, but it's surprising what we can do away with and still remain healthy and comfy.

I need to collate all that material and start a thread...

52 posts per day :o Used to be 56 ppd, but lately I have been posting a wee less.

Most of my posts are clocked in Discussion Time and the arms. I gues my money saving posts must be about 3,000 - the rest is just pointless waffle, really... :o:o

Anyway, in answer to ceridwen... No!! No blog. Threads and posts are more than enough for me thanks.

Back on topic, I was really surprised at what sort of thing I'd mindlessly spend money on. I find that the single most important money saving device I have found is to actually record every penny I spend - that is an eye opener.

    Good thread....:)

As I type husband has just finished the chicken coop to house 3-4 chickens so we can get fresh eggs soon (once I get my bloody chickens that is!) and he's replanted some of this veg that have fairly sprouted....We're making small changes in our life, but its difficult, and we have to make the time. Friends and relatives laugh - keep thinking we are something out of the good life.

I am a bit of a bargain hunter - but again could be better. What I struggle now with tho is saving the pennies but yet not scrimping on the QUALITY of some stuff. I don't want to buy smart price eggs anymore....I don't want to buy cheap stuff (like biscuits) for my kids with hydrogenated fats in them etc.. So how can you do it?

I also find not wasting food difficult. for example....last nights dinner for the kids was a free range asda chicken reduced to £1.10 from £7 odds. Remainders are in the fridge tonight and I know I need to use them by tomorrow.....but I work full time, and when i come home the last thing i think about is cooking as i want to spend time with my kids....and trying to cook meals using leftovers sometimes can be a nightmare - I just grab the easy option (toast and banana)

We're mainly concrete calley...........created a sort of raised bed for the herbs and last year we got a fair crop of runner beans and potatos.

In on the sunday papers a few weeks ago the gardener person made a 3 or 4 ft square raised bed on a patio.

Google Square foot gardening and it can show you what you can grow in a tiny space.

So anyone even with a small space can grow veggies.
