Selling House - Soicitors Fees

I'm in the process of buying a new house and part exchnging mine with the developer. This is my first house sale as when I bought this house I was a FTB. I've just had a quote from the solicitor on how much the conveyacing costs will be and this is what confuses me:
According to the quote, they're going to charge me approx £500 for buying the new house (expected that) and approx £500 for selling my current house to the developer (totally unexpected!).
Can this be right and is it normal? Do I have to pay the solicitor extra to sell my house?

In a word? Yes.
Price sounds about right too! My solicitor charges £400 + vat = £470 buying or selling.
Oops! Forgot searches. We pay £220, up front when buying. No searches when selling, so no cost.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

At the end of the day the solicitor has to do some work to actually do the legal bit of 'selling' and 'buying'. Hence they charge you for their time.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Thanks everyone. I just assumed that the cost of selling would be picked up by the developer but I guess that there is a level of overlap. Thanks again0
