Insurance for my shed

I live in a apartment, but I have a garden with a shed.
The problem is I do not have buildings insurance, this is covered by the maintenance company's insurance on the building, so I only have contents insurance and no insurer wants to just insure my shed, can any body help.

Are you talking about damage to your shed or it's contents

    Hi there

Every company I have worked for would be willing to add a shed as a specified item to a contents policy, or provide a letter confirming that they consider it to be part of the "contents" cover. The rule I was taught (in the late 80's and early 90's) was that if a shed is standing on a "permanent" foundation (a concrete drive or specially made fitting) it is part of the building and should be added as a "tenants improvement". If it is built on to dirt, grass or loose paving stones, it's part of the contents cover.

This is a useful article from the Financial Ombudsman Service:

It's from August 2003, but I think it still counts as good guidance.

Hi, Thanks for this info, its just that the shed is worth £2000 built on grass and my insurance company (Lloyds TSB) tell me that my contents cover, covers the contents, including bikes etc; but because I only have contents they can't insure the shed as this would be covered by buildings insurance which I do not have.
I would just like to take out a policy just for the shed.
