Problems with lettings agents, advice needed please.

First of all apologies if this is in the wrong place!
My niece left a rented property in February of this year and has had lots of problems getting back her deposit from the lettings agent. Firstly, she was accused of stealing a picture, allegedly worth £200:eek: , thankfully, the new tenants wer very helpful and produced the said picture, probably worth about £5 on a good day.
My niece bought a brand new christams tree for the house with all the trimmings to match the decor. She bagged and boxed all the items and left them for the new tenant, thinking she was doing them a favour, she was charged £95 for leaving them:eek: .
Can anyone tell me if this is okay? The house was full of hand me downs and was quite shabbily furnished when she rented it, it was left in a far cleaner and better state then she found it.

The LA should have contacted your niece, warned her that they would levy a charge and given her the opportunity to remove the items. Even if they had done so £95 is excessive. She should write and tell them so.0
