Curlyboy - sounds like you need to get your spending under control, and fast. If I were you I would start by cutting up the cards so you can't use them anymore - Egg have already helped you by cancelling your card with them - don't think on it as a "cheek" on their part, in the long term you will realise it;s done you a favour.
As others have said - post up your full details on the Debt free wannabee board and take the help and advice that will be offered. In the short term start yourself a spending diary - write down EVERYTHING, and I mean everything you spend - seems silly but it really does help you to get a grip on your budget and where your money goes.

Based on the information given by the OP, Egg were right to cancel his card as they were with the other 160,000 customers. I never had mine cancelled unless of course you consider it favourtism.0
