Stop buying fashion magazines- not only will you save money from the cover price, but it will stop you lusting after something you really don't need.
It's working really well for me at the moment!

I entirely agree!
These past three days I had to do some work (I am a market researcher) in Harrods and Harvey Nichols. I saw a Louis Vuitton purse for £270. Great looking, but definitely paying for the name.
To be quite honest, for many years I have been put off expensive clothes and accessories which are only good for a year or so. The phrase "more money than sense" springs to mind.
Buying quality is important because the stuff lasts long, but if you go for a more classic look, you get wear for years. Garments such as Levi's jeans never go out of fashion, black court shoes or loafers, a wool jumper... you get the idea.
Tip: when you get fed up with a garment which is still in good condition, try dyeing it. I used to have a lovely top which fit me perfectly and had a great cut. It was light grey. Eventually it got a bit stained here, a bit faded there. I bought some black dye and had a go at it. It worked a treat and I saved £££ as I had a new top for almost nothing.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
lol, foreverskint, you beat me to the reply! Please note that if you keep going to the fridge for choccies, you will fritter away precious £££!
And let's not talk about weight! :eek:Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Or, you can be like me and have your own unique fashion that wouldn't see the light of day in any of these so-called fashion mags, just so long as it's black (purple or deep red at a push) and has a sprinkling of velvet and lace then it's "in"
To be honest I've never been one for following "fashion" as I like to be different and have always done my own thing, so I find it hard to understand those that have to rush out and buy the latest thing
I've always dressed accordingly to whatever I'm doing, so for several years I lived in nothing but jodhpurs and sweaters/rugby shirts LOL! Most of my working life has involved wearing a uniform so that was sorted, and I always have a classic suit in the wardrobe for official functions, other than that I wear what I feel comfortable in which is mostly long skirts and shirts/tops as described above"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I wonder if some people have been brain washed into believing that their life isn't complete unless they buy 'designer' shoes, clothes, sunglasses and handbags. Why? I just don't understand it.
The only time I buy well known brands like Nike or Levi is at reduced prices at an outlet, in a sale.....or when I travel to the USA on holiday.
You have permission to put me in a straight jacket if I ever lose my marbles and spend my hard earned cash on 'designer' overpriced nonsense:eek: ........pah!

Plus you won't get an inferiority complex or feel old/fat/frumpy from looking at loads of pages of 'stick insect' young models.(those pictures are all airbrushed anyway)

So true, I stopped buying designer mags - because i like expensive shoes to much and its not cus they're designer its just cus they're so prreeeeetty!
and unfortunately no matter how much you pig out your feet will not change size much - so the choccie bloc is out of the window!!
actually bit of advice needed - i have this very soft wool roll neck jumper which i managed to put in the washing machine on a hot cycle - its all out of shape but i reckon i could make it work if a turned it into a V-neck - but am a bit scared, if i chop off the neck will the wool fray and go all weird?
any other suggestions for what i could do with it?
not really suitable for pillows or anything cus its brown!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!0 -
Eliza - whether the jumper will fray will depend on how much it has felted in the washing machine. At the end of the day though, what do you have to lose but a jumper that you can't wear anyway?0
