FairFx.com Travelcard

Ok so Ive been looking around for the best deal on prepaid cards for International travel, and for what I need I've found FairFx to have the best deal. Theres:
No application fee (unless you load with less than £500),
no transaction fees,
cash withdrawal fee for UK & Intl is a relatively low $2,
theres no fees for loading money onto the card using a credit card etc,
and the converstion rate for dollars is brilliant too.

But with all this in mind, I'm left wondering how the bank intends to make money but can't find any hidden charges. Has anyone used one of these before and found any extra charges they weren't aware of?

Cheers for any help!

  • You are right, I travel a great deal and have had one of these cards for a few weeks now, like you I can't seem to find the catch, it does exactly what it says.
It seems to work everywhere, UNLIKE my RBS card that bombs out at least once a month, apparently because my spending patterns are "irregular" ie. I travel a lot, and they don't seem to be able or willing to over-right the system rules.....a complete shambles, wake up RBS or these smaller guys will take on the regular travellers like me.
I will let you know if anything else happens, but frankly it just works, hardly amazing I know, but impressive anyway.

Well, for starters you could try answering the one he's already asked ;-)

That is, if there are no other charges, where do you make your money on these cards?

It would appear there's some exchange rate loading but the percentage doesn't seem transparent from the T&Cs, can you say what it is and whether there are any other charges?

    Hi David

It's good to see representative from a company on this forum to be answering questions regarding their products.

I would consider a FairFx card when I go to NYC in a couple of months time.

I think I have had one of these cards nearly from when they first started, catching it by chance on another forum, there rates are superb and we travel alot in the US,and have never had a problem in using the card, in fact they have always had the best rates, we often load it when the US$ rate is high, the online service is great, any problems like logging into account(forgot passwords) get a same day response via email. The loading of the card is very very easy, we use bank transfer that takes 3 days to load but if you use debit it is almost staright away. And now with faster payments service if they subscribe to it, those 3 days should be quicker. We have always saved money, the card cost nothing(as noted we loaded above £500) but even if you dont do this is is still cheapest.

I am very very happy customer, and I have saved a fortune compared to my normal travelex service collecting dollers at the airport.

    Regards

    john

    Nice engrish.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it
