around 18 m0nths ago i had an accident at work which may well go to court,i have been represented by the union appointed solicitors and today they have written to me asking if i had legal cover on my home and/ or car insurance at the time of the accident.
i had legal cover on both but does this count as a claim on the policys if they get involved in this work related matter and has this happened to anyone else ?

Usually a claim made under the Legal Expenses section alone does not affect any no claims discount or your premium at the next renewal. The only way to sure, however, is to look at your policy wording.
The car legal cover will probably not be applicable anyway; the household one may contribute to any costs.0 -
They have to ask you this as part of the protocol on no win, no fee cases - the issue being that if you have legal expenses cover, this should cover your costs and therefore there is no risk to the solicitor and they therefore cannot charge a risk based conditional success fee. It also probably avoids the union being at risk of footing the bill and therefore as union panel solicitors they ask this to help the union as well. If you lost the case and there was therefore a claim against you for costs it would count as a claim on the policy but normally the legal expenses cover is a seperate insurance policy (albeit sold with the main policy) and I would have thought it would not for example affect your primary car no claims discount. If you win compensation your costs would be paid by the other sides insurer and there would be no claim on your legal expenses cover.Adventure before Dementia!0
