Something's lurking in my hard drive

Hi
I'm not sure if this is the best place for this, but thought I'd give it a go.
I'm convinced there's something untoward on my hard drive & I can't seem to find the nasty beastie. I've got Norton, with a MacAfee firewall (on tight) and I regularly update these with Adaware.
I clean my cookies & internet files regularly, and I access the internet using AOL & use their scans with the new Ms one.
They haven't found anything, but the computers, really slow on the uptake when I go online & almost feels as bad or worse than before I went over to broadband.
I'd be really grateful for any help/advice etc.
thanks

Download HijackThis then save a log file from the scan. Then copy the contents of the log file HERE see what it tells you.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Trend Micros[/URL
Trend Micros do a free online scan of your computer to see if their is a virus lurking.
Are you using anti virus software - if not download AVG (grisoft) free version
from hereIf at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.0 -

Rex is right, do this and we can see whats running and try to pin point anything that shouldn't be there0 -
Could just need defragmenting0

Sounds like you have to buy a new PC.0

This is not an attack on Norton products but try get rid of it on a temporary basis and see if things improve. There are other free alternatives out there that can do the same job. Try Ad-Aware anti spyware, AVG anti virus and Zone Alarm firewall for starters.

Do a disk clean up and then defrag it ( how to get there START ALL PROGRAMS ACCESSORIES SYSTEM TOOLS )0

I used to help on CyberTechHelp analysing Hijack This logs, so you could just post the log and I'll help.
Hijack This removes the registry entries associated with a file/application, but the files involved will need to be removed in safe mode.
Other infections require additional tools that an automated scanner would not alert you to i.e. CoolWebSearch.Filiss0
