Hi
I have looked through the forums and havent found any info relating to this, so i applogise if this is answered elsewhere.
I have recently been stung by BT with £164 to move to talk talk
I needed a line activated for a new flat i have moved into, so i signed up to bt for the first time, about 2 months ago, a month after that i moved over to talk talk, talk talk assured me on the phone they would handle the transfer so i wont need to contact BT, i specifically asked if i would get stung for changing, they said no! and that the monthly rental would be paid through them only
yesterday morning in the post i got a BT bill for £233, £164 of that was for cancelling the BT contract, (i made a grand total of £2.66 worth of calls) the rest was for activation of the line
I have disputed the cost with BT and they say it lays with talk talk & the only option is for me to pay, they have given me 25 days.
any help with where i stand on this would be much appreciated!!!
thanks
Chris

Welcome to the MSE forums themave.
I'm sorry about the circumstances but it's highly likely that you are liable for the BT charges. You are obviously in breach of contract(s) with BT because it is not possible to get less than a 12 month contract on a new line with them.
Talk Talk lied to you to get your business (you're not the first).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Sorry to say it but BT are right, when you signed up with them you would have signed a 12 month contract.
One thought, If you explained how long you had been with BT to Talk Talk before they undertook to make the transfer I would suggest that the costs of making the transfer are down to them.
If BT retain the line- that is you pay them your line rental you are free to get any provider to handle calls for you and BT have no hold on you.
I hope that htis helps
