Just got a new 2nd jobs for a few months. Basically all I'm doing it taking data off one website and putting it in a exel spreadsheet - and they pay me £0.05p per line of data. Not quite a lottery win but it will all help !

Me too please or how did you find out about something like that. I'm currently living outside the UK so finding it difficult to do any work to make extra cash but this seems like something I could possibly do.:T"People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like" - Clive Hamilton on Consumerism.0

hi, i would be interested in some more information about this too please0

I would be interested in more details too.
Mainly because anyone who has been programming for two days could write a program to do it automatically. And if you can't program it would probably cost you $10 to have a program written for you.
I'd like to know what you are copying, why and who for?0 -
There has to be more to it than that otherwise why would anyone employ someone to do it in the first place if they could get a simple program instead to do the work?
I would not mind the op sending me more info either.0 -

I'm sure there has to be more to it than that too. The internet is full of free programs that "steal" content from web sites and post it on other sites. If you own the web site there would be no problem getting something to "steal" the content and putting it into a spreadsheet.
It doesn't even have to convert the data to excel format, just add commas (or one of many other things) to indicate the end of the field and set the file extension to .csv. Excel will then happily open the file, and save it in excel format.
Sounds like a "get paid for receiving payments" scheme to me. You have to ask why they aren't doing it themselves. And why they want it done in the first place, if it's there web site they, have the data and can do what they like with it themselves.
Do a google search for "html to excel" but keep the quotes otherwise you'll get results for html + excel.0 -
Sounds very dodgy to me.
I could write a program in about 25 minutes to export data to excel.
What seems weird is that, if they have alot of data, you would expect them to hold the data in some kind of data e.g mysql, which they can extract data from using sql, and import it into a excel document.
Either the websites owners dont have a clue how to write a proper website, or its a con.
Unfortunately I think its the latter!£4000 in 2011 - £48.88/£40000 -
I have done several tasks similar to this through odesk now and whilst it is boring its not particularly time consuming and i have always been apid for all the work that i have done. Whilst i am being paid Im just assuming that they dont want the boredom of having to do it themselves. For what i need this fits in perfectly around my young son and just provides a few extra pennies to buy him treats and things with which is exactly what i was looking for.
Im sure there are companies out there who will refuse to pay etc but i havent come across them yet.Erika0
