Who sends out P60's?

Hi!
Hubby changed his job at the end of Feb.
He has not been sent a P60.Where do we get one from, his last employer, new employer or the tax office?
We have his P45 so would this be ok for details of what he earned last year plus the amount on his first wage slip from his new job for last yrs earning total?
Thanks

  • He should ask the payroll dept of his new company. They will have produced one at the end of the tax year (around the 5th April). Maybe they post them out & it got lost??

DH works for a large company and we need his P60 and P11D for student finances for our DD.

It took a lot of chasing to get the info before the end of May and even then it was only a week before that we got it.

In fact you will get your P60 from the current employer which will include the information from your previous employer taken from your P45.

just to add to what edinburghlass said, the P60 should have the income from the previous employer on it if he gave his p45 to them, but not always.

The P60 should have a total pay, pay in this employment and pay in previous employment on it. If pay in this employment is the same as total pay and the pay in previous employment is 0 then you need to add on the P45 figure to get the total for the year. If there is a figure in the total from previous employment part then the total for the year should be correct.

I worked for a few agencies last year finished working around the end of march but restared work 7th april, I need to know my total income for last year will the tax office provide me with a p60 for them all as I don't have p45's we had a flood !!!
  • I am currently working for an agency. But as yet have not received my P60. Am i right in saying then that my agency should send me out my P60 by the end of May?

Also who sends out your tax codes and When should I receive this. Also if I have not received this who should I chase for it?!

How do I claim back tax that I ahve overpaid, as my P45 took a while to come through from my previous job, so I had to pay emergency tax for a couple of months. Will my agency sort this out for me or do I have to reclaim this myself?

    Thanks

P60's are issued by any employer you are still employed by at the end of the tax year (5th April). If you stopped working for an employer they should have issued you with a P45. Neither P60's nor P45's are issued by HMRC.
You are advised to hold on to all P45's and P60's you receive for 6 years, that is how far back you can ask HMRC to review your taxes and also how far back they can inspect your taxes.

Employers should issue a P60 by the end of May. They have to make an annual return to HMRC by 19th May each year and one of the forms they have to return is called a P14. It has 3 pages to it, the third page is detached and given to their employee as their P60.

Tax codes are issued by HMRC if they have been told you are working for your employer.

You should always approach HMRC when trying to chase up tax codes or refunds of tax.

Do you get a P60 if you receive a state pension?
