Going to Rome? Help!

I am going to go to Rome at end of September and dont know where to stay. I have provisionally booked somewhere based on a recommendation but its £150 a night so for 3 nights it seems quite dear. Its a roof top apartment in a BB with a roof terrace about 3 minutes from the fountain. Can anyone give me a better or other recommendations for somewhere central or any good advice please.

Rome has a huge variety of accomodation
depending on what u are looking for u can get a "pensione" similar to our B&B or splash out in some fancy place as u mention. Public Transport is very good so even if right not bang in the middle of it all u will be fine.
most attractions are quite far from one another so dont think once u are central u will be walking everywhere

as per acco cant suggesta s i stay with friends

https://www.!!!!!!!!!!! is anotehr good one for hotels
    Wins so far:

Red Cheeks B&B is really good me and my mum stayed there. Its part of the pop inn hostel. Central and easy to find as across the road from Terminii (sp?) the main train and metro station. We got train from Champiano airport to Terminni then went accross the road and up the street a bit! Very secure. We had a double room. Cleaned everyday. Shared bathroom with 2 or 3 other rooms - it was a converted appartment I think. It has a small common room with free internet. Also free breakfast of coffee and pastry at wee cafe down the street. www.popinnhostel.com

We used tripadvisor (always use it now) and stayed at the Domus Praetoria.
Very handy for the termini, as in 5 minutes walk away.

We stayed here a few years ago. It was basic but clean and right near the most wonderful part of Rome.

I have also stayed in the domus praetoria. Can agree that it is bsaic enough but clean. It is near the train station/ drop off point for ryanair bus and is not too far from the main sites. There are a number of little cafes nearby for breakfast/lunch/dinner, etc which are more reasonably priced than the ones in the main tourist areas.

    Hi

I've twice stayed at the Hotel Adriano, it's 2 minutes walk to the Panthenon, 5 mins (if that) to the Spanish steps, actually Piazza Navone, Trevi fountain etc all c.5-10 mins. I think it's a great central point and would certainly recommend it. Both times I've booked it as part of a flight and hotel package with Lastminute.com but from memory was c.£80 per night

We always check out the reviews on slowtravel.com they have a lot of Rome . We stayed in an apartment and at the Albergo Del Senato(quite expensive)and loved Rome.

I think the price you have got is about right for an aprtment with a roof terrace.,but if it is not important to you,you will be paying a lot for that amenity.
