we stayed in Hotel Lancelot a couple of years ago and can highly recommend it. It was really lovely, beautiful rooms, helpful staff, extremely clean and location very close to the Coliseum.
we were in rome about a month ago and stayed in the hotel morgana royal court again about 140 a night but a super hotel really quiet and only 5 mins walk from the termini. you can pretty much walk every where and if you use public transport metro and buses they're only 1 euro or 4 euro for an all day ticket. Rome is beautiful and i would go back in the morning. not cheap but cheaper than the republic. check out trip advisor thats what i did. have a great time its a great city.
I booked a hotel through venere. You'll get a wide range of prices so there'll be something to suit your needs there.
If you are flying into Ciampino airport then one money-saving tip is not to get the bus from the airport laid on by the airline. They charged something like 8 Euros each way when I went. Better to get a normal bus for 1 Euro from the airport to the Ciampino train station and from there the train into the centre of Rome (Roma Termini) is 1 Euro.
Those prices are from about 18 months ago, so they may have gone up since.
