Banking a cheque in Euros?

Hi, had a quick search on here and on Barclays but didnt have any joy.
We were due a refund after paying by credit card and the company have sent a cheque. Not usually a problem but the cheque mentions the Netherlands (but an english address is also on it) and its in euros.
Can I bank as usual or will I be charged for it? Its from Microsoft but looks like a sister or subsidiary company so I know the cheque is fine but I seem to recall you get charged for banking this kind of item. Does anybody know?

Are you sure that this is ok?
Microsoft are an American company why would they be sending you a cheque on a dutch bank? Have you checked out this 'subsidiary' on the Internet?
Banking this will cost you about £5-£10 depending on the amount and you will also have to wait for the negotiation to take place.
If you paid by credit card then really the refund should go back onto the card.
There are a lot of scams around particularly with Microsoft at the moment.0 -
Hi, thanks for the reply.
Have no idea why the cheque wasnt sent direct from Microsoft. We made a payment by card last year to have an xbox fixed, they were supposed to send out a label to use to send the xbox back but it never arrived. They quoted a system failure and said they would refund the payment and we should try again.
However we bought a new xbox and thought the refund would go through fine. It didnt and I only remembered recently. I have not spoken to them as it was in hubbys name but they advised him they would issue a refund but due to the delay it would be done by cheque. I thought nothing of this as simply expected a normal cheque.
The cheque does state it is a London branch and the company that have issued it do appear genuine when I googled them.
I dont hold out much hope of getting the refund switched to the credit card as they took ages to advise originally that they couldnt send the labels out and it has taken a few weeks to get the cheque. Is it worth just banking it?0 -
Take in to your local bank.
You will probably need to tell them it is a Euro cheque drawn on a London bank to ensure that it is sent to the correct department.
There will be a small charge for negotiating this.0 -
Have you considered asking your credit card company to charge back the payment?0
