For example if you live at 56 High Road, and your postcode is QQ12 6XX then the numbers needed to complete the card verification would be 56126.
Not 100% sure, but this is what I can recall my sister telling me (she works in a bank!)

I don't see how you thought the card itself would be involved with these.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

Too true an AVS authorisation would not go through if you put in your current address and you had moved and not told your bank. Why would anyone think otherwise, it is simply common sense and the whole reason for the system.
I though jonesMUFCforever worked in bank, it seems he is uneducated as to how these systems work. Not like the old days when you started as a grade I clerk and worked your way up doing your banking exams. Most of the people in branches, expect for the old experienced staff, are there to sell and know little else. After all LTSB no longer has branches, it only has stores!

I like the 'old experienced staff' bit - suits me to a tee - agree wholeheartedly about the rest - who do you think sorts out these whizz-kids sales people's mistakes??0

Think the CCV /SVV2 code is to make sure the person has physical access to the card (and usually only the owner has access).
The SVV2 number is only printed on the card and in the Credit Cards Computers. It's not stored in any way on the Chip or Swipe bar on the card.Laters

john s, you do not necessarily even need to provide your address when using the card and verification code. The merchant will probably be told by the credit card processing company that there's a lack of address or address mismatch and can then decide whether to accept or reject the transaction.
For goods delivered electronically (downloads and such) the potential loss is generally small and with check code and number match I've yet to have a merchant decline a transaction when I've used "not provided" as the address for a purchase that didn't need physical delivery.
If physical instead of electronic delivery is needed it's more likely to be an issue.0
