Allow 7 days for Insurance.
I couldn't find any mention of this on the board, so apologies if a thread already exists.
My dad was stopped by the Police last night.....for having no insurance
His insurance expired at midnight on Sunday and being a good boy, he had visited his brokers last Thursday and paid his premium in full by cheque, continuing with the same insurance company.
According to the database that is used by the police, he did not have any insurance cover.
He did not have the cover note with him, but after about half an hour sat in the police car, he was 'released' with a note to appear with his documents at the local police station.
When he visited the brokers today, he was informed that the insurance company has up to 7 days to update the database  , and they have heard of a few people being stopped and some have even had their car confiscated until documents have been shown......As dad was giving 2 friends a lift, he's happy this didn't happen to him.
So, please be careful, it may be an idea to carry the cover note with you for a week or so after renewing, if the renewal is close to the date of the policy expiring.

I won't repeat all the information contained therein, apart from one very useful tool - you can check if your vehicle is showing as covered on the Motor Insurance Database on this website0 -
The MID Database does indeed take 7 days to update, so you are shown as being uninsured during that period. It's quite normal and I guess the police will be aware of that.
The delay in updating the database also leads to you not being able to tax the vehicle online too.0
