thinking of putting some books related to our subject matter on our website. does anyone know of anyone making money from referral business such as amazon's books?
i tend to buy books myself directly from amazon. what about other people?
thanks in advance.

  • I've made quite a bit of money from referals, and its mostly from books and dvds that I do not advertise.
This is because if they click an amazon link on your site, your referal id is stored as a temporary cookie and if they go back to amazon at a later date and buy something different, you should still get the referal.
If you're feeling down, you must be holding a duck.
  • Not a penny over the last 12 months :( , however like the other poster YMMV and it can't do any harm to try. You might like to try Google Adsense too, which earned £95 over the same period.
  • My website has been going since May and I've had quite a few clicks through to amazon and a few conversions. I mainly use www.tradedoubler.co.uk which has loads of well known companies, so you should be able to find adverts that suit your website.
  • Have made a bit of money but not that much, but it's better than nothing & does you no harm to have it on there :)

What is google adsense? I just tried to click your link & something strange popped up & am wary to click anything after having a lot of trouble in the past with spyware etc

Ooops! I gave the co.uk address which pops up a site security certificate warning. Click OK to the prompt - it won't do any harm. If you're still worried, the correct link is https://www.google.com/adsense/. Click the Quick Tour for an explanation of Adsense.

I have both Google Adsense and Amazon links (US and UK) on my site.

Google offer better return for effort but it will really depend on your site's topic and the time you can spend to tweak the output of HTML or scripts you can use to put Amazon content on your site. I earn most from Google, my Amazon.com revenue is about 80% of my Google earnings and I'd be lucky to earn an average of £5 a month off Amazon.co.uk.

If you fancy a challenge and have the time/inclination to design your own Amazon advert box/banner/store - then you can find more info, as well as related resources, at Amazon E-Commerce Services.

If you want to see Google and Amazon in action, then visit my site as use AWS (sorry, should be AES (i.e Amazon E-Commerce Services), force of habit) in a variety of ways (store, search, recommended sections) - currently earns me about £80-£100 across Google and Amazon on average each month - used to be double that at one time but I've not worked on my site for about a year.

If selling books, Amazon is the most profitable affiliate going by comments made by others who have signed up with several book-sellers - other stores do have affiliate programs but Amazon is the shop of choice for most book buyers due to it's reputation/branding.
The only computer error is a human one.

Thank you for this. I have just looked around their site, looks quite good & I'm just deciding whether or not to give it a go
