Moving money and closing account

I've signed up for a Alliance and Leicester current account. Its all active and ready to go. I'd like to transfer my current balance on my Halifax current account to this new AL account. I've only got one direct debit so I can sort that manually. Whats the quickest, easiest and freeest way of moving the money (£XXX) and closing the account?

Between Halifax accounts its pretty much instant. Any idea how long it would take to move over and would the money be unaccessible from when I submit the transfer until when its in the new account with A&L?0 -
Before May 27th, 4 days (action Mon, arrive Thurs). After May 27th, possibly instant (A&L will be able to receive FP's, but will Halifax be able to send them?).donkingkong wrote: »Between Any idea how long it would take to move over...
Yes....and would the money be unaccessible from when I submit the transfer until when its in the new account with A&L?0 -
If you set the online payment from Halifax, it will be received 2 working days after the payment, NOT including the day of payment. So if you set your payment for Friday 16 May you will receive it in the AL account on Tuesday 20 May.
Yes your money will be unaccessible from the time you submit your transfer. You may want to leave a certain amount in your Halifax account in the meantime to cover any daily expenses or bill payments etc.0 -
Can you not go to Halifax, withdraw cash from cashier, and then go to A&L and use deposit machine to put funds in?
I did this today, and was instant (well not including the 2 min walk between branches).???DMP Mutal Support thread No 237
