Broadband trying to use dial up!

Help or suggestions appreciated.
In the middle of me using [like replying to a post or inputting ordering info] internet BT broadband connection disconnects and starts trying to use dial up [!] and flags a message that I am working off line, only way to re-establish connection is to click on internet icon, go to home page, open ‘tools’ and untick ‘work offline’ and then I’ve lost all the input info. How can I stop this happening?/make the ‘unticked’ stay ‘unticked’ ?
[Vista using IE, occasionally Firefox.]

If espresso's tip doesn't work completely, try running an anti-spyware tool such as Spyware Blaster or Spybot S&D (there are others available if you google "anti spyware tools") and see if there's some premium dialler interfering with your connection.0
