Bucking the system: water seal and masonry paint

Am trying to grab the opportunity of painting the o/s of the house whilst in a dry spell [not a lot of it in NI].

I know Thomsons water seal recommend applying, waiting for either a few days or 2/3 months depending on application before painting, however my question is:

Can I masonry paint now and then at some time in future use the water seal?

you only need to apply thomsons on bare unpainted brickwork , there's no need to apply it over paint , if that's what you are intending

if the paint is flaking or powdery , then treat it with stabilizing solution , if it has got any mould on it , treat with fungicide solution , rinse , do this before using stabilizer
