William's query..

William, friend of a friend, who's been helped on here before, thanks - well he gets dla has done for a while,he got what I think is an indefinite award, (has had other benefit mix up etc though).
Now, out of the blue, he received an IB50 incapacity for work form to fill in.
BUT He does not receive INCAPACITY BENEFIT. So why would he get this form? He says the questions asked are the same which have already been answered - in the DLA forms which he filled in (apparently more than once)
Is it another dwp mistake?
Could this mean that as well as his DLA he could qualify for and receive for INCAPACITY BENEFIT as well, then? Presumably back dated as he was not advised of this...
He wondered if anyone would know what's going on with them sending this?
Will print out the answers and pass them on to William, thank you.

If he receives Income Support on the grounds of Incapacity he will also receive Incapacity Benefit credits and will will have to complete the IB50 form.0

exactly what i was thinking, especially if he has been on DLA for sometime i assume he hasnt worked for sometime, and possibly at the time he became unfit for work he didnt have enough N.I. credits to claim I/B so got I/S instead, however as Healy says the IB50 is still relevant,i suggest he gets as much help and advice filling in the IB50 as possible,as the points system for the PCA has been changed in the last few months a scource of excellent free advice would be

The points system for the PCA has not changed yet. There will be a revised points system for the new ESA in October but that will initially only be for new claimants.0 -

there have already been some adjustments to the points system for the PCA,but so far i think its only been trialled in a number of areas,i know the bootle office was one of the first.
From my own experience i know that under the old PCA having a seizure once a month got the needed 15 points, now that only gets 12 points.
The new points system will probably go live in all areas prior to ESA in october, thats of course assuming that ESA goes live in october !0 -

There have not been any adjustments to the current PCA points system, it will be different for new claimants from Oct 2008. A version of the new PCA, now called WCA has been trialed on a small scale. There is no reason why the new WCA will go live in all areas prior to October because that is when ESA comes into effect unless you mean to test it out alongside the present PCA.0 -

if thats the case then im wondering why a number of well known websites have published full details of the revised pca that has been used in a number of areas for some months now?I understand what you are saying about the wca,but atm its still pca and some aspects have been chnaged,e.g. the instance i quoted.
Of course the real news today is the govts U turn in the transition from I/B to ESA and the fact that being found capable of work under the wca wont mean losing I/B,and that existing claimants also wont be forced onto pathways to work and its meaningless work focused interviews and action(lol)plans0 -

I have not read anything about a revised PCA and you are first person to mention it, as far as I know nothing has changed, it would not make sense to revise the PCA when there is the new WCA in October. The way I read it was that if you fail the new WCA ie are found capable of work you WILL lose IB, otherwise there would be no point having the WCA as no one would have benefit withdrawn.0
