Dual Tariff Electricity Economy 7

I am with Scottish Power. I have been sending my meter readings by e-mail, as meter reading 1 and meter reading 2 as requested by them. Today I have
found out that meter reading 1 is infact day time tariff, where they assume
it is night time tariff. Meter reading 2 reading has been assumed as day time
consumption, when it is night time tariff. A meter reader man has been
twice in the last 12 months, so don't assume your billing is correct!
As a result I have paid for 2,500 more on the expensive tariff! I have phoned
them to put it right. I wonder how many others are in the same boat.

I think the problem OP is that there isn't a universal way to name/number the 2 rates. It should be pretty easy for them to sort out but it makes you wonder why they don't look at past bills and it will be pretty obvious which one is which in most cases.

My folks had a similar issue when they switched it NPower years ago, but in that case NPower swapped the readings over initially and then applied future readings the correct way (to their advantage)

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I wouldn't like to say it was easy, we had a huge amount of trouble with British gas to cut a long story short we have economy 7 and they had not got this on their records yet they had been told when we had moved in 7 years ago and when we give meter readings, basically they had overcharged us for 7 years on the night time tariff.
We could not understand why our bills were so high we rang.......no joy.....we scratched our heads and cut down on our usage to get the bills down we made lumps sums of 1000 pounds yet we still seemed to be owing.
It was not until the new style bills came out and we could see why it was there in black and white the double charges.

We rang.........we asked them to look into our account............and from Sept 06 till Feb 2007 we had threatning letters, court action was taken out on us even though we had go them to realise the mistake and they were re calculating, i cant tell you how we got by the end of it.

The upshot was we had been in credit for a year by over a thousand pounds.
It does not end there since getting it all sorted we were put on a 91 a month dd and caught up again (as we refused to keep paying when we knew we were in credit by a lot) now the cheeky wotsits have increased our dd to 117 a month for the summer period...........I dont think so as i am in credit again.

So beware...........chease chase chase and make sure you keep all letters and peoples names as in my case it was over a year of sleepless night and worry.

Even though they were adamant that they were billing me right in a forceful e-mail, they changed their mind when I said that I ran night storage heating,
immersion heater and over night washing on 370 units in 80 days. I told themI'd carry on with their way of billing, but would have the night storage heaters off during the night, and use "boost" during the day, also only have the immersion heater on during the day. I'm now in credit £133 with the up to date reading. They said we do not analyse bills, it's up to customers to work out if their bills are right.
Our meter shows "rate now" in top left corner on the LCD screen. In our case Reading 1 is from 7.30.am to 23.30.pm and Reading 2 is from 23.30 to 7.30.am
