Working tax credits help please

This is for the year 2007/2008 i was unemployed until June the 1st 2007. I started ork on the 2nd June 2007i worked until 1st Jan 2008.
As soon as i started work i phoned up the tax credit people informing them of my return to work.
When we did our anual renewal form this year 2008 i noticed that we were not awarded any working tax credit for 2007/2008. I phonned up and asked why the kind woman informed me that they didnt have any records of me working in 2007. So for the next hour we went through all my work history for 2007 giving employers name addresses ect what i earnt. She then told me that my claim would be processed and a payment would be sent to me.
I phonned back today after waiting two weeks to see if there was any new the nice man on the phone asked me what i was talking about so i explaind about my phone call two weeks ago he told me that there was no record of this conversation or me working in 2007 and it was to late to claim any working tax credit back now and there was nothing he could do about it.
Surley this cant be right?
