Finding out what was in a will?

I will keep a very long story short! Please can anyone tell me where to go (preferably on line) to find out the contents of a will of a recently deceased relative?

I dont think you will find it on line - the executor/trustees of the will should contact you (or the solicitor if he/she is dealing with it) to let you know if you are a beneficiary

You can apply for a copy of the will, can't remember who you contact, I'll try and dig out the info for you, unless someone else answers in the meantime.
Only reason I know is because we obtained a copy to settle family dispute.

    How recent is your loss?

If the will has passed through probate then anyone can have a look at it. You can ask at your local probate office.

Sorry, don't know any more details :o
    Always another chapter

I thought you could only get a copy after probate as hev says(and given that the OP said a recently deceased relative I assumed that probate had not been obtained) - but are you saying that you can get a copy before probate?
    Thanks.

Don't want to hijack this thread:rolleyes:

But I am sorting out a will, being an executor.

How private is a will ???

If ( for example) kingshir came and asked me !!
How much ( if any) information should I devulge.

I was not going to inform the beneficies until I was in a postion to release the items/money. Have to gain probate/ sort IHT etc.
But if one came to me and asked........

    Hev is correct.

You apply by post [no on-line facilities] to the regional [what we did] or national probate office.

Before probate haven't a clue, after not at all.

Difficult situation I guess if you're an executor and you're asked for details by family prior to probate.
