Housing benefit and lodgers

Not sure if i have put this in the right place so feel free to move it. Im after some advice for my mother. She is 61 and recieves housing benefit for her 3 bed council house, im just wondering how the benefits would be affected if she took in a lodger and has anyone done it before.

Things are getting pretty desperate for her now as she is so lonely and getting very depressed so any help will be greatfully recieved TIA

Laura

It can depend on what the arrangements are with the lodger - different rules if there's food provided or not, whether it's a formal arrangement or not etc.

Also does she get any other benefits as they may be affected?
