Libra Holidays

Hi. Ive just had a holiday cancelled by Libra Holidays and we were to go in a weeks time! They didnt offer us anything else but we could get our money back. Ive found another holiday but it has cost more as we had booked in October so that one of our party could get a single room. With a week to go we stood little chance of a good selectyion but didnt want to go without our holiday.Would we be able to claim compensation please?

    Where were you flying to/from??
A bit naughty they can do this so late, but I suspect all you can hope for is your money back - a bit annoying and you should get compensation for that.

  • We had accommodation with Libra but cancelled the contracts. We then saw our properties were still showing on their web site so we had to ask to get these removed. We have since discovered that customers that had booked when we still on the website still think they are coming to our accommodaton. Our advice to all Libra customers is check that you are actually still going to the accommodation you booked.

It is a breach of the ABTA Code of Conduct to cancel holidays this late. You should talk to Libra and say you want a suitable alternative, even if it costs them more or you will be contacting ABTA. They can fine them for breaches of the code, you will not be the only one complaining I suspect, call 0207 637 2444 and ask for pre departure customer services. It would be cheaper for them to sort you out than suffer the consequences of complaining to ABTA

Remember they may be acting for your good too; the accomodation but be unsafe or unfinished etc. shame they couldn't offer you alternative accomodation

Just back from our changed holiday. Thanks for the replies. We have a letter from Libra. It more or less says BOGOF. £30 each or nothing. Looks like a letter to ABTA but I'm not too convinced about how effective they can be. At least if everyone who has a complaint writes to them, they will know what a shocking company Libra are. BTW while we were on holiday we met a lady who had had her Libra holiday cancelled on the day they were leaving!

    Just a quick note.

Libra/Argo holidays are in a sticky position at the minute. They have been recently bought out by the Allbury Group, but have debts to Greek hoteliers in the region of 2.2 million pounds. The hoteliers are now closing their doors to Libra and Argo holidays, meaning they have lost thousands of rooms for the new season.

In an aside, I remember this happening to Goldensun back in about '04-ish just before they went under. I'm not insinuating anything, just comparing.

Hi, my friend and I are booked with Libra to go to Santorini, Greece on 22nd July for my son's wedding on the 24th. Luckily the rest of the wedding party are booked with other companies. Can anyone give me advice on what I should do?

You could call or email the hotel and ask if they are still accepting bookings from Libra.

As Midlandsmum says they are having major problems at the moment with money they owe to Greek hoteliers.

Which hotel are you staying in?

Hi, I spoke to the local travel agency today who phoned Libra, the hotel in Santorini and a handler in Kamari who all confirmed that my hotel is still taking Libra customers. Hopefully this will not change before my holiday - the travel agency were exceptionally good and have promised to contact me if they hear anything. To cancel now would mean we would lose 40% of our money - keeping my fingers crossed that the situation does not change.
