Insurance for shared house

Hi guys
I currently live with 2 friends in a rented house. We took out a contents policy through Churchill Insurance which we paid around £700 for over the time that we have lived together. We needed to make a claim to them quite recently so phoned them up to discover that they do not provide cover for shared houses.
Now , there was nothing clear on the website stating this and we feel that we have been mis-sold a policy. On closer inspection the terms and conditions do state that they don't cover shared houses but we feel that this is a pretty important information that needs to be made a bit clearer.
Has anybody come across this problem before and do you think we have a case for trying to claim the money back?
Any help is much appreciated.

You say that there was nothing on the website but did you ask?
It does say in the terms and conditions that you are not covered when did you read this?
I think you have no chance of a successful claim - you may be able to get some of the premium back.
It is not a missale.0 -
we set up the policy online but there was nothing during the registration that stated we wouldn't be covered.0

But there was when you received the policy document and you would have been given a cooling off period - a time when you could have discovered that this policy was useless to you.we set up the policy online but there was nothing during the registration that stated we wouldn't be covered.0 -
Did you take out the policy jointly in all 3 names or just in the name of 1 of you?0
