Sorry as a parent of 2 boys with special needs I disagree with the 'must get a diagnosis' as long as it is not a condition which can be controlled with medication, a diagnosis is not essential. A diagnosis is not required to achieve any support including educational support. I am a firm believer when it comes to conditions which effect behaviour it's treat the child and family, not the diagnosis.
In my opinion you should ask your GP after explaining the situation for a referal to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in your area, hopefully they will be able to help you with both getting to the root of your sons behaviour, helping him deal with it in a better way and improving your parenting skills so you can handle him better.
anewman does have a very good point, it may be something well worth considering, especially considering how the family deal with the 'seizures' and how much attention is given to them, I've seen this happen dozens of times with children with various issues.
Good luckOne day I might be more organised...........
