I don't think you'll get much luck in a "chain" store like Comet - unless it's a "manager's special" with damage or something.
Try Euronics or similar which are still individually owned - and usually still believe in customer service !0 -
We managed to bargain quite a bit off when buying 3 items - cooker, fridge and washing machine. This was at Curry's.
We got free installation, and items price matched (we had looked for the cheapest on pricerunner before), and also said how we got cashback from sites like quidco.
We dealt with the store manager, so it was a lot easier although we ended up spending 3 hours in the store, but ended up saving 20% :T0 -
Stores aren't as interested in cash now they want you up to your ears in debt with them, spent £800 on laptop with comet took an hour to persuade them to throw me in some paper free as i was purchasing large item cash....
Best bet is quidco or topcashback private message me if you are inteerested in a referal link.
hope this helps..:o0 -
you can get 10% discount if you order online from comet on fridge-freezers enter code 10WSHFF to get the discount.
make sure you check around online, i just ordered a new tumble dryer that comet were selling for £399 and got it for £310 incl delivery and take the old machine away from pixmania (who are the french arm of currys and in this country use currys to deliver etc..)
which model of lg and samsung was it?
EDITED TO SAY after a quick search i assume the lg model is this LG ELECTRONICS GWB227YUQA as that is the only one at comet for £600. You would get that for about £540 with the 10% and free delivery you can also get 3.5% with quidco which is a rough quess about £18 so that would make the machine to approx £522 the next cheapest i could find would be £549 at dixons online.
What you could try in comet is tell them about the discount code in store and see if they will match it. If not walk out and order it online with free delivery and free quidco money.0 -
pick a quiet punter-free, preferably rainy day and not weekends to barter. The Comet near me always want to get you interested now and get you to say 'YES' and out off discussing discount/goodies to later. They never discount later once you have said YES! Comet always want to sell insurance and their face turns sour if you don't buy it

If there is a Curries, Commet next to each other they always seem to sell slightly different models (noticed this in fridges), so they are not in a bidding war.
The comet in Wembly (nr the stadium) had quite a bit of returned or factory damaged items at reduced prices.
If the item gets delivered and there is a slight scratch, blemish then you can complain and ask for a perfect one, but sometimes you get £40 back.
If comet have a blemished display model, you cant buy that one until all the others in their warehouse have been sold
I too would try and get the best deal from Comet and then go to Euronics or online.
I have phoned up an online company and bargained with them, as the cheaper one never had stock.
Then there are the delivery charges. Then removal of the old fridge charges often extra tooGOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

empiredirect are much easier to do a deal with.
store managers have much greater powers. they want the sale. play them off against comet etc...
i got a great deal when buying a fridge and a freezer together.Get some gorm.0 -
I have never, ever, not once paid the asking price for a large item from anywhere..it's kinda against my nature to do so!
Buying something is like a game to me, and I will use every trick in the book to get what I want at the price I want. True enough, on very rare ocassions, I walk away empty handed, but not often. If you go about it the right way you'll find that the person you are bargaining with will also 'play the game' and you'll both come out of it feeling pretty good.
As another poster has said, with bigger stores like Comet, go on a quiet day, midweek, and preferably quite close to closing time. ALWAYS be polite and keep the smile on your face and be prepared for a stand off...;) Tell them what you are prepared to pay; what you think is a reasonable price especially if you are buying several big items.
Always have figures to hand too, like 'so-and-so down the road have this same item for £xxx, so I'm sure you guys can do better! (don't make up a ficticious price tho! be sure of your facts!) Could pay off to add a bit of smarm here, like 'as you are well renowned for your customer care, I would rather shop with you guys..' kinda thing.
Tell them you are paying cash so you know they can at least knock off the CCard service charge they always factor in to the prices. Always ask for free delivery too, or offer to collect as long as they knock off a bit. When you've worn them down a bit, throw in a request for a linked-freebie, like a case for a digi camera or free rewritables for a computer. Be cheeky at first, ask for something big, and when you get the sharp intake of breath, ask for something smaller...!
We recently bought a computer for my m.i.l. in Comet and managed to get 25 quid off, an upgraded screen at no extra cost (luckily, the one we wanted was out of stock and we made out we couldn't go back the next day for the original one!) he chucked in an upgraded mouse at no extra after I explained she was a bit arthritic and couldn't use a cheap one, and I would have tried blagging a broadband cable too if I could have found one on the rack on the wall...!!
All in all, a bloody good bargain AND we had cashback from Greasypalm on the whole deal :rotfl:
Have a go...do a bit of bargaining...it's worth it, believe me...good luck!

I would advise you to do a bit of research beforehand so you know the going price of stuff. We went to Empire Direct, saw an oven we wanted and managed to knock about £30 off the price after a bit of bartering. When we got home I just happened to look on their website to see the same oven £70 cheaper than what we'd paid  Straight back down to the shop, showed them their own advert so they happily refunded the £70 difference. So, £100 difference between the website and shop price :eek:ITV Winners Club #87 :eek:0

Sometimes it works the other way too...you sometimes find that the webprice is actually dearer than the shop price, even if you factor in any cashback deals.0
