Found a couple of tips on another website that mosquitos apparently hate. Has anyone ever successfully tried any of these?

Marmite - eat for 2 days before and once a day while on holiday

I don't seem to attract mosquitos (or too many men lately! :o), but had South African friends who swore by the Marmite method.

some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)
  • In Australia they bring the children up on Vegemite ( among other foodstuffs of course) to prevent mosquito bites.

Tried it myself a few years ago having been severely affected on holiday in Greece.

It worked well for me, started taking it about a month before the holiday and for two weeks in Kos, had not a single bite!

It's worth trying, one slice of toast with a fairly small spread of Vegemite for breakfast.

Yes, you can buy it in the UK, Sainsbuys, Tesco etc.

I'm just back from Corfu and wish I'd read this thread before! I suffered badly from bites and the avon skin so soft made no difference (it has on previous trips) People that we met on holiday gave me plastic bands to put round my wrist and this helped. I think they are 99p for 3 out of Asda. I was also told about the marmite and will give that a go next time.

    Found these on ebay

A dab of geranium essential oil is effective at repelling mosquitoes.

However it is important, especially when used for children, that you dilute essential oils in a vegetable oil carrier. 10ml of geranium in 100mls of grapseed/jojoba should be sufficient.

If you like, you can also add a few mls of citronella.
  • I use Mosi-Guard Natural and would highly recommend it - it may cost a few bob but there's nothing worth than having loads of mozzie bites, so in my opinion it's well worth the cost.

    Have a great holiday!
