school uniform

Just as another point our school has a blazer as part of their school uniform and I telephoned the school this morning to ask if they had made a decision yet regarding the wearing of blazers in this hot weather. I was told that the Head Master has said that THEY MUST WEAR THEIR BLAZERS. I think that it is very inconsiderate as my son has to walk a mile up hill to school in the morning and obviously on the return journey home. The school does not have lockers so they have to take their books with them every day which makes for an extremely heavy bag and with them having to wear (or in some cases when it is just too hot (like the last couple of days) they have to also carry their blazers. To say that I think they are mad is a complete understatement. I feel that the school should have a policy that if the outside temperature is expected to be over a certain point they should not have to take their blazers to school. Anyone else care to comment on this point?

My son (year 7) has to wear his blazer, but they have been told they don't have to wear their jumper/tank top, in this weather.
I don't see why they can't take off their blazers in lessons and at break and lunch times, I'm sure the teachers aren't walking around all day in a jacket!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

Some of the teachers have told them that they have to wear their blazers in the lessons although some are a little more lenient. Case of do as I say and not as I do really as the teachers who are making them wear them in a lesson are usually teaching in shirtsleeves!!!!0 -
This is totally bizarre!
We have 2 secondary schools and about 10 primary in my area. All wear polo shirts and sweatshirts with school logo and colours. They are smart and casual, perfect for being taught in.
Our schools policy is that they have more important things to be concerned with like the childs education than their uniform! I must admit as the uniform is plain and simple it is adhered to by 95% of the students. (always the odd rebel!!)
However, we have leanrt this month that one secondary school has decided to go back to shirt/tie/blazer. Apparently it will raise the profile of the school!!!! Surely this is an issue about children learning and being comfortable to do so, NOT how the school wants to be portrayed:mad:
Fortunately my school has kept with the casual approach and I'm glad. My children look smart, and in this weather very cool.
Can you not take this issue to the school? parent power can be very strong!
I hope your schools see sense soon.0 -

Just to let you guys know that my son has been wearing the "BHS" grey trousers now for about 1 month and he has not had a problem. No one has checked that his school trousers are not the "official school supplier ones with the logo at the extortionate price" and if he does get caught I shall simply say that the "school shop" did not have his size in at the moment!

I once had this argument about uniforms and telephoned the education department who said you cannot force children in junior schools to wear a uniform!!Roll on spring, I hate the cold weather:(
