Think we are getting too much

Just checked my bank account and our tax credits have gone up to £51 somethind child tax and £31 something working tax. Last year we were on £22 working tax and £45 child tax. I rang up to say I think we have been paid too much and the lady said its based on our annual review, I asked if the figures are corredt, ie: £11 100 wages and £2500ish carers allowance and she said they are and the payments are correct. I don't understand it though as our previous years wages were lowere but we were getting less  . We haven't had the award notice through yet but I don't want to end up being overpaid for next year, I don't know wheter to save the excess in a seperate account and then its there if we are overpaid or believe the lady I spoke to that we are entitled to it  ! Any advice?

I would say if you don't desperately need the money I would keep it in a seperate account. That way if it turns out you are not entitled to it you can give it back, and if you are entitled to it then you will have a nice little lump sum.

Our t/c has gone up a roughly the same amount as yours. I went on entitled to and the t/c own site, they both came back with the same figures that are on my award.
  • thanks for the replies people, I'll have a look on the calculator :T

Could it be that you werent paid enough last year and thats why you are getting more, though I would have thought if that were the case they would have paid it one lump sum???
