I'm sure im going to get the sack this week due to various problems but mainly poor timekeeping. I was wondering if it is possible to claim benefits after being dismissed from work on these grounds. I live alone and have no savings and would also need to claim housing benefits. Thanks

I am not sure but |I think that if you are sacked from your Job they might put you on a JSA sanction which basically means you will be on a reduced rate for a certain amount of weeks.
Is there anyway you can rectify your time keeping?
Would you be able to find another job fairly quickly?
Housing Benefit has been replaced by LHA, you would need to make a claim but this might take several weeks to sort out also.
I think that maybe you might be better off either trying to retain the job you have or trying to find something else ASAP.
Just my thoughts and I am sure someone with more knowledge will be along to give you some more positive advice.:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j0 -
Im already on a final warning so think there is no hope of me keeping this job, I have a disciplinary meeting on Thursday so I really think this will be my last day. I'm going to start job hunting immediately but my need to claim just in case!0

If your previous warnings have been for the same behaviour, then I would think the chance of a sanction being imposed is quite high. I believe they contact your employer too.
I'm sure it has been said on here (by DMG I think?) that those on sanctions can still claim HB?
Really though, perhaps you ought to start looking for a job which starts at a different time of day? I know of someone who only works afternoon shifts because he hates getting out of bed in the morning and has, apparently, had significantly less 'sick' and late days since he made this decision.0 -
Yep, it is still possible to claim LHA/ CTB irrespective of other benefits, or the reason for needing to claim (as long as the reason is legal!).Gone ... or have I?0

In the job I do we work different shifts 6-14 or 13-21 its actually the 13-21 I actually have trouble with! Actually since my warning im hardly ever late and if I am its no more than 5 mins my manager just wants rid of me. Thanks for the advice regarding the LHA at least if it comes to it I can get help with my rent.0

You don't really believe your boss is being unreasonable do you?
For most people, it's very rare they are late at all, especially after they have been warned!
Perhaps you could look for a morning job then, if afternoons don't suit?0 -

I'm NEVER late despite not being based at the same company (I work for an agency) and having to travel anywhere between 10 and 40 miles which can change on a daily basis.
Last week I was starting work at 5am and finishing mid afternoon. This week, I'm starting work at 6.30pm and finishing at 7.30am and I'm not late.
You've been warned and you're STILL turning up 5 minutes late? It's REALLY SIMPLE. Get up earlier. Set off earlier. ARRIVE 5 MINUTES EARLY.0 -

Sorry but it's not always a simple as that.
I have 2 children to get to school followed by a bus journey to work. Due to bus times (and the bus usually running late) I am unable to get to work ontime MOST days but fortunately I have an understanding employer.
Whilst the solution you give is simple, it just does not work for everyone.

but they do give the impression that they are single with no responsibilities so really lateness shouldn't be a problem unless they have an illness or are caring for someone.

Yes, but they started this post looking for advice, not looking for people to judge them on their timekeeping.
Hopefully they have found some advice and put it to good use.0
