Also - electric showers are very expensive to run, I believe. I'm sure I read they work out as expensive as a bath if run for more than a few minutes.

I've got an energy monitor and have been surprised at how much the reading drops when everything is properly switched off rather than left on standby. There are quite a few people who say that it's so little saved, it's irrelevant, but I think if you have kids it can be a worthwhile saving.

As for tumble drier, I wouldn't be without mine but I only use it in the winter. Even then, I dry bigger things over the radiators to cut the loads. When I had an airing cupboard, I had a rail where I'd hang football shirts, hoodies etc and they'd dry beautifully.
  • We have a 10.8kw shower  and, after observing the money it gobbles when using our The Owl usage monitor (over £1 an hour at Click 5 leccy rates!!) we have insisted to our kids that no shower is to last more than 10 mins or it's a bath from then onwards!

would anyone know if its cheaper to use the electricity at night? if so between what times? I'm sure it's an old wives tale.
