LLoyds Bank froze our accounts!

I was a bit annoyed at the weekend when I couldn't access my Lloyds online account. I rang them on Sunday and was told I had to ring their customer care line on Monday. This I did (0845 no) and was told that the fraud section were investigating a deposit of £100 that my daughter had put into my bank account. I told them that this was right and if they looked at my account they would see that I had transferred £100 into her account the week previous and that she was only returning the money she had borrowed from me. Anyway, to cut a long story short I had to get her to ring or call into the bank to verify that she had put the money into my account and that I hadn't pinched it! However, her bank told her that I would have to call in also. Her branch is actually 300 miles from mine! Eventually got her to ring (she hates talking to the bank via phone) and they unfroze my account and hers too (she wasn't aware that her account had been frozen as well)
Couldn't believe it when I was on the phone to my mother this evening. She was telling me that her bank account had also been frozen. Obviously because we have a joint account with Lloyds. They are barmy! Three accounts frozen when all they had to do was to telephone my daughter to get her to verify that she had deposited money! Wonder if it is a scam....freeze peoples accounts = an extra days interest on their money and also revenue from their lengthy phonecalls.
Rant over!

  • 12 months ago, my employer (a local authority) was burgled and had their computers spirited away in the night. We were informed that we should notify our banks as info about our a/c. details were on the aforementioned nicked computers. The info was encrypted and probably wouldn't be capable of retrieval but to be on the safe side, "Let your bank know".
As soon as I told my bank (A thoroughbred amongst banks), I have been unable to use internet banking for transferring cash. Every time that I enquire when I may restored to full status, I am told that I can any time that I want to but there is an implication that if I do suffer any financial loss, I will have to stand it ! All my colleagues with other financial institutions had new a/c.s opened for them and all standing orders and direct debits automatically tranferred to the new a/c.s
Perhaps Lloyds have a thing about frozen assets !
