settlement offers to credit card companies

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help? I have a couple of cards that i have been having trouble paying due to a split with my husband and loosing my job.
I haven't been making minimum payments, just paying what i can. One has raised a default notice (damn that MBNA!!!!). Anyway, my house is in the final throws of selling, and i will have some spare money to pay on my cards.

I was wondering if anyone had successfully rang and agreed a final settlement figure with a credit card company, hopefully for less than what is actually owed?

If so could anyone give me any tips or links?

Thank you so much!

It is always worth asking if they would agree a settlement figure, this will usually be slightly less than what you owe. But as far as i know this will remain as an outstanding balance on your credit score. Yet you have come to an agreement and as far as you are concerned you owe them nothing.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.
