ever had building control to check elec work??

hi there,
just woundering what peoples experiances are of involving building control dept of notifiable electrical work? i'm hoping to do the electrical work myself for a new kitchen, moving a few sockets and cooker point.
i was an electrician in a former life and have the knowledge to do the job, but am not registered to sign the work off myself.

    They will generally appoint someone who will come and inspect on their behalf, once at first fix and then a final check. Some time later you get all the certificates in the post from BC. I beleive some of the regs changed in January which affect what you can/ can't do, even as an experienced DIYer or past qualified spark. Speak direct to BC they are usually very helpful.
