Computer speakers gone down

My computer's Creative Inspire 6.1 speakers stopped working recently. They just went dead. I tried them on another computer and they didn't work, plus I tried a different set of speakers on the original computer and they performed well. Ergo sum the Creative set is dead. Given they came with a brand new computer two years ago, I am somewhat fed up to say the least. My local computer shop says nobody will repair them; it is cheaper to throw them away! Although this is probably the case, it seems a real shame that an easy repair cannot be made. The set has a big bass speaker unit, into which the other speakers all plug, si I guess the fault is in there. But there is also another (very heavy) unit, which gets hot when the system is in use. Could this have "blown". Are these things worth fixing, or should i just bite my bottom lip and buy something new?
All suggestions welcomed!

Well you could just take them apart if possible and try and solder
any loose connections, as they do seem broke anyhow this seems a
good money saving idea, otherwise you will have to get a new pair.

  • Silly to throw all this kit away, have you checked the fuse if theres a power problem? Theres a possibility you just have a faulty volume control remote. Try fix them if you have some knowledge, if not don't try anything while they are plugged in :P
