Hi,
My petrol mower refuses to run,it starts then fades ,appears to be a petrol problem ,but there are no repairers in our area. I will have to buy another ,the grass will continue to grow therefore urgent.Best buys please.

Have you used it at all this summer.??
firstly change the spark plug, do this anyway as poor old mowers run very hot and the plugs suffer.
Secondly take off the fuel bowl on the carburettor and clean it all out including the pickup jet these gum-up over winter.
Thirdly inspect the primer bulb to see if it has a small hole in it.'Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship'. -Benjamin Franklin.0 -
Have you stored in on a level ? sometimes if you have to elevate it for a time to squeeze it into a shed the cylinder can flood with oil. It'll start, smoke and cut out, try pumping extra fuel in using the priming bulb just after it has caught. Worked for me after my mothers gardeners borrowed it and beggared it.0

It is a honda and there is no priming valve ,would it still start with a dodgy plug?To be happy you need to make someone happy.0

Are you using fresh fuel, the mower I use gets temperamental if the fuel is a month old also replace or clean the air filter depending on usage.Hi,

Mower plugs often crack due to the heat, as it warms up it fails.
As mentioned also change the fuel and clean the filter.'Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship'. -Benjamin Franklin.0 -
is it two stroke...
if so are you using the correct mix to rich a mixture will allow you to start and idle the engine fine but when you want some power it will just fade away and stall..
check plug and lead...fuel filter...air filter...
think a goodish petrol mower will set you back £100+

I wouldnt have thought it was a two stroke engine as nearly every mower nowadays is a fourstroke, but you maybe right in thinking it will be a problem with the petrol. Petrol oxidizes when it comes into contact with the air and a waxy buildup forms in the engine that can cause blockages. The best thing to try would be to empty out the old petrol and put in some fresh petrol and leave it for a day (fresh petrol often breaks down this buildup). When emptying a mower, always remember to tip the mower so the exhaust is pointing down and the air filter is up in the air, if you do it the other way around then you will get oil in your air filter.
Failing that, if you need a new mower, check out the lawnmowers here, the Hayter Spirit range is very good indeed, for domestic purposes the spirit models are very good and very well priced. Go for a rear roller mower for nice stripes on the lawn.
I hope this helps.0
