16yr old in FT Education. If he works will it affect Child Benefit &Working Tax Cred

My sister's son is in full-time education studying A levels. Currently he receives EMA allowance.

If he were to work part time, would:

a) his Mum still receive child benefit?
b) it affect his Mum's working tax credits
c) affect child tax credits (not sure if she receives these)
d) how much would he be able to earn if it didn't affect b&c?

From what I've read on various threads and on the Govt sites, I'm pretty sure a) won't be affected but I'm not sure about b&c.

Thanks in anticipation
Titch :)

As long as he's in full time education, anything he earns is disregarded, as is his EMA.

Thanks. So he could earn £100 per week and still keep his EMA and his Mum would keep her benefits?

Sounds too good to be true!!

Yes he could.:D My DD often earns £100 a week if she works extra hours. I found it hard to believe at first. Did enquire about it but was told that yes it is ok.:T

Yes, he could. However this would seem to be pay for a very large number of hours for someone doing A levels. Most people find that 8/10 hours is all they can manage; it's not much point doing A levels unless you get high grades.

I expect your example was theoretical but I just thought I'd make the point.
  • i seem to remember something about not working more than 24 hours??
