    Hi there,
Some companies do temporary policies, like Norwich Union and The AA but you do have to fit in with certain criteria, over 24 etc.

Have you looked into getting a full year policy and paying on installments so you dont have to pay it out all in one go, also most insurance companies give you a cooling off period to cancel your insurance and get a full refund. Also just because you think your area is unsafe doesn't mean the insurers will. My grandparents used to live in a posh area and their premiums were higher as the insurers deemed that as there cars were more desirable and expensive they were more likely to get stolen etc.

I was just quoting what it says on the website
    http://www.theaa.com/insurance/short-term-car-insurance.html
Temporary (short-term) car insurance is available for:
    • any car you can drive with a standard UK driving licence
    • any person with a UK, European or other full driving licence
    • any insurance period from 1 to 28 days
    • drivers over 24 years of age (or 23 as a secondary driver)

pay either monthly or weekly and then if you no longer need the policy you can cancel it, but check first as you will most probably have to pay a cancelation fee.
